SUMMER INSTITUTE 2016:

Design Thinking @ Your Library

2-Day Workshop

Learn how to "do" design thinking and practice it through practical application to  library-related issues like research, space design, & the STEAM + Maker Movement.

Come early enough to join the welcome reception and design challenge kickoff starting at 6pm June 21st!

Keynote:

Design Think Your Way to a Better Library

As librarian-educators continue their efforts to integrate the library into the teaching and learning process they will encounter change with technology, demographic change, user expectations and administrative oversight. Design is at its essence about change, and creating products, services and spaces that provide elegant solutions to big problems. Be it library space, learning objects, websites or tutorials, librarians do design. To improve their design process, librarians should consider taking a more systematic approach referred to as design thinking. In this presentation Steven Bell, Associate University Librarian at Temple University Libraries, will lead attendees to better understand what design thinking is and how it can be applied by librarians to develop design challenges for tackling tough problems.

Registration covers breakfast, lunch, and light snacks both days. We will tour Troy's Tech Valley Center For Gravity and do dinner on our own downtown the evening of the 22nd. There will be a New York style pizza party for anyone who stays over on the 23rd.
